Alachua County Library District (ACLD) provides library services to the residents and visitors of Gainesville, Florida, the communities of Alachua, Archer, Bell, Bradford, Butler, Citra, Hawthorne, High Springs, High Springs City, Melrose, Montford, Newberry, Paynes Prairie, Pine Hills, Reddick, Santa Fe, Suwannee, Union, Waldo, and White Springs, and in the cities of Newberry and Waldo, in Alachua County.

In 1962, the dedication of a new library in Alachua County, Florida, required the construction of an entirely new building from the ground up. The 60,000 square-foot structure would house all of the library’s collections and allow patrons to browse, study, and borrow books, magazines, and more. But more than just a place for books, the building would also serve as a community center, offering space to hold meetings, concerts, and other community events.
